This handbook is meant for Guild members and/or potential clients who want to propose and help to
coordinate a Guild project. The handbook describes the essential components making up a successful project, and
discusses eighteen projects in particular that emphasizing the unique parnerships among all the talented and
generous individuals and organizations responsible for bringing the project to fruition.
Among the projects discussed
are two timber frames built for Habitat for Humanity in York, PA, in 1989; the Speed River Covered Bridge in 1992 for Guelph,
ON (the largest event to date); the Concord Barn project in 1989 in Concord, MA (a project still being shown
in reruns on PBS's This Old House TV show); the Lexington, VA Trebuchet VMI project in 1997; and the Ronald McDonald House in 1995 in Bend, OR.
With this handbook as a guide, project hopefuls can determine in advance if the project is appropriate and if
the necessary resources are in place in order to assure its success.
